Oh the memories! After 50 years some tend to fade in and out much as Jim faded in and out of our lives with his frequent relocations to and from Toronto. Some of my favourites were the trips to Katahdin with and without the Hiking Club. And more recently, our ritual kickoff to Harvest every September. Years ago, Jim had a camp on the river through the woods behind his father's place in Little Ridge. A group of us hiked into it on a winter's day and stayed the night. The pot stove in the corner threw very little heat and I remember Jim staying awake all night feeding it wood. In stark contrast to that, I remember visiting Karen and sleeping on her balcony in downtown Montreal. I assume we were in town for an Expos game.
Thanks for the memories Jim.
Rest in Peace my friend.

Harvest Jazz & Blues festivals will never be the same without the opportunity to have a beer and burger with Jim at his home or at the Lunar Roque. I also have fond memories of hiking with him at Katahdin and accompanying him with the Camping and Hiking Club at the St. Stephen Middle School. We shared a love of music and movies. Jim moved often between St. Stephen and Fredericton, between Fredericton and Toronto, and between various residences in St. Stephen. I often helped him with his moves and was frequently the recipient of books, cds, dvds, and odd pieces of furniture which he could not take with him. He was a light traveler. I thus have many fond memories of Jim as I walk from room to room to garage. In our many conversations he never failed to mention his three daughters, the pride of his life. I will miss him and think of him often with fond memories. Judy sends her condolences as well.

Jim was always active, no matter where he lived. He was active in outdoor activities and loved local theatre. When he lived in Fredericton and Toronto, he was involved in theatre, either acting or working behind the scenes. His love for the Blue Jays and the Raptors was only rivalled by his love for his three daughters, Tracey, Zara, and Alyssa. In his earlier years, as a teacher, he headed up the Camping and Hiking Club at school, inspiring students to enjoy the outdoors. Some of my favourite memories were our trip to Cadillac Mountain and our camping trip to Baxter State Park in Maine, where we climbed Mt. Katahdin, which included "the knife edge". He and his friend Paul hiked on the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia over a period of summers. With Jim, there was always a story to tell, and he had many. He could talk for hours. When he wasn’t at home reading or spending time with his family, he was outside hiking, walking, or biking. He loved to bike, and this year alone he logged 1200 km on his bike in the city of Fredericton. With Jim, age was but a number, and he refused to accept that he was getting older; he was always young at heart. He lived and loved life to the fullest. You will surely be missed, my brother.

Jim, a good man, a good friend - our years together as co-workers, Baxter State Park/Mount Katahdin enthusiasts, and backpackers of parts of the Appalachian Trail were some of the highlights of time spent in his company. “Thank you for the memories, Jim”. You will be sorely missed.
Judy and I are thinking now of you, his loving family, with our deepest sympathy

Mr. Matheson taught me several years and was an excellent teacher. I had a special appreciation for him as we both are "Milltowners". I grew up across the road from his mother on Church Street so we also knew each other personally and he was always very kind.
I was just asking Tracey about him several days ago.
Sincere condolences to his loved ones.
