Obituary of Sylvia Diane Starkey

Please share a memory of Sylvia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, Sylvia Diane Starkey. Sylvia left this world far too soon on November 12, 2024, just days shy of her 74th birthday, bringing to a close a life defined by love, resilience, and selfless devotion to those she held dear.

Sylvia was the devoted mother of Amber Bishop (Joel Roy) and Ben Bishop (Roxanne Bishop) and the proud grandmother of Lily Bishop Hare and Reese Bishop. She was predeceased by her parents, Douglas Starkey and Hazel Fairweather, and her dear sister, Sharon Tilley. She is survived by her sister, Sandi Starkey (Sergio Carvana), and lifelong friends Maureen Kennedy and Edwina Corey, whose lives she enriched with her warmth and generous spirit.

Throughout her life, Sylvia was known for helping others. She devoted herself entirely to caring for both her mother and sister, who each passed earlier this year. This year has been marked by deep loss for our family, but through it all, Sylvia's strength persevered.

As children, we remember our mother often singing along to the melodies of Lionel Richie, Whitney Houston, Rod Stewart, and, during the Christmas season, the unforgettable tunes of Kenny and Dolly. Her voice will forever echo in our memories.

Losing our mother and grandmother to this cruel disease has shattered our hearts, but we find solace in knowing that within less than six months of her diagnosis, she passed quickly and without pain. #fuckcancer.

Sylvia’s life will be honoured and celebrated at a gathering of family and friends this Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 6 to 8 p.m. at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton NB. A few words will be shared at 7 p.m. If life permits, we invite you to stop by at any point during the evening to share a toast to our beautiful mummy. For those who wish, remembrances can be made to Hospice House Fredericton. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com

Rest in peace, Sylvia, Your love, strength, and joy will forever live on in us.
