Obituary of Michael John Shee

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The passing of Michael “Mike” John Shee of Fredericton, NB, husband of Anna Mae (Walls) Shee, occurred on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Hospice House in Fredericton.  Born on September 20, 1950 in Ottawa, ON, he was the son of the late John “Johnny” Arthur Shee of Quebec City and Edith “Edie”(Graham) Shee of Springfield, NB.

In addition to his loving wife of 18 years, Mike is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Couture (Luc) of Fort Myers, FL; son, Jeffrey Shee (Sheri) of Petitcodiac; step-sons, Jamie Walls (Alicia) of Quispamsis, Andrew DeWolfe (Cindy) of Hamilton, and Scott DeWolfe (Jennifer) of Durham Bridge; grandchildren, Everlea, Kalyani, Lennox, Lia-Jayde; step-grandchildren; Whitney, Wesley, David, Emily, Jackson and Rylie; great granddaughter, Ruthie; sister, Sharon Michaud (Gaitan) of Grand Falls; sisters-in-law: Connie Ross of Fredericton, Donna Stewart (Vernon) of Kingston Peninsula, and Pam Brophy of Wellesley; several cousins, nieces, nephews and many good friends, who will remember him fondly.

Mike was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending time in the wilderness whether it was hunting, canoeing - running the white water of the Sissiboo River, building the camp, or simply just being in the woods taking part in the next adventure.  He was also involved in many hockey and softball leagues throughout his life.  He was a loving father, husband, brother and son, who was always there when anyone needed help or assistance.

Mike graduated with a degree in forestry from the University of New Brunswick.  He spent a large part of his career working in the forestry sector running logging camps and woods operations in areas ranging from the Cape Breton Highlands, Dryden Ontario, The Pas Manitoba, then to Weymouth, NS working for Bowater Mersey.  Mike was also a determined entrepreneur, operating his own forestry management and silviculture business in Nova Scotia.  Later in life, Mike chose a different career path and worked in various management roles within the NB department of transportation.  Mike finally retired in 2012, and spent the following years travelling many parts of North America, creating countless memories with family and friends, and spending time building his camp in Renous, NB.

In addition to a successful family life and career, one of Mike’s proud accomplishments was his commitment to the Canadian Blood Services, reaching over 150 blood donations during his eligibility.

Aside from his parents, Mike was predeceased by his brother, Patrick Shee of New Maryland and brothers-in-law, Gary Ross of Fredericton and Rick Walls of Rothesay.

The family would like to express a special thank you to all of the staff and volunteers at Hospice House, Dr. Rideout and the staff of 3SW at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, and the staff of Windsor Court for their care of Mike and his family over the past year.

Arrangements have been entrusted to York Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, December 14, 2024 between 11 am - 2 pm at Kingswood Lodge, Greenbrier Room, 31 Kingswood Park, Fredericton, NB. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Hospice House Fredericton, the Fredericton Food Bank or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
