Obituary of Elizabeth Whelpley Coy

The family of Elizabeth Coy is saddened to announce her passing at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB on the evening of October 29, 2024 with her children at her bedside.  

Bid was born in Moncton, New Brunswick on July 03, 1940 to her late parents Fred Williams and Mary Harrison. She grew up in the Garden Hill Avenue neighbourhood, graduating from Moncton High School. She went on to study nursing at the Saint John School of Nursing graduating in 1961. She then worked for the VON in Ontario. She took a break from nursing to raise her children, returning to her profession in the early 1980’s at both the Chalmers Hospital and Pine Grove Nursing Home in Fredericton.
 
In 1962 Bid married the late Neil Coy and they remained married until his passing in 2020. After residing in Ontario for several years, Neil and Bid returned to New Brunswick in 1969, taking up residence in Riverview eventually moving to Douglas, New Brunswick in 1976 living on Riva Ridge until recently.
 
Bid was a member of the Nashwaaksis United Church for many years. She enjoyed tending her flower gardens at the house. She loved her Riva Ridge neighbours. She continued to feed her wild birds and animals until she had to leave her home in 2021. She loved spending time at her camp at Long Reach, NB having started going there as a young girl , swimming at Williams Wharf with her childhood friends and travelling the Saint John river in her old Chestnut canoe.
 
Bid is survived by her daughter, Ellen Cyr (Gerald McKee); her son, David;  her granddaughter, Megan Palavics (Beny) of New York City; her brother, John Williams (Shirley) of Calgary, AB; her sister in-law, Elizabeth Robinson of Sussex, NB; and her special cousin, Anne Perry of Quispamsis, NB. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bid was predeceased by her parents, husband, Neil; infant son, Donnie; and her brother in-law, John Robinson.
 
The family would like to thank the staff of Shannex Brunswick Hall for their care of Bid during the last several years, and also Dr, Rideout, and the staff of 4SE at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital for the exceptional care they provided during her last days.
 
As per Bid’s request there will be no visitation or funeral. A graveside service will take place on Friday, Novemebr 8, 2024 at Long Reach United Church in Long Reach, NB at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SPCA, the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of the donor’s choice. York Funeral Home has been entrusted with final arrangements.
