Obituary of Alton Stewart Nicholson

Please share a memory of Alton to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The family of Alton (Al) Nicholson sadly announce his passing on October 15th at York Care Centre.
Born in
Woodstock on July 20, 1944, to the late John and Mona Nicholson. Al is survived by his wife Alice and daughters Angela Hitchcock (Brent) and Alaina Nicholson (Dwayne Jones); grandchildren, Katlyn and Matthew Hitchcock, and Dwayne’s children Levi and Hayden Jones; brother, Errol, and sisters, Eldora Thomas and Bessie Langille; as well as several nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his son Andrew (Andy) in 2003.

Al was very much an outdoor person and loved hunting, fishing and four wheeling. He spent many happy years with his friends at their camps, making maple syrup in the spring, repairing the camp for summer, fishing at
Benton and planning hunting trips in the fall.

He was a quiet humble man who enjoyed the simple things in life, and got great enjoyment from helping friends and neighbours with many handyman jobs. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix or do, and he was often called on for advice.

After his retirement from NB Power of almost 40 years he love going to Deluxe for breakfast every morning, then later in the morning meeting at McDonald’s for coffee with a second group of friends. He rarely missed a day.  He enjoyed his retirement years, even after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which he handled with grace often saying “it could be worse”, and kept going as long as he was able. He eventually had to move to York Manor where he got the best of care, and we will always be grateful to them for their kindness and support.

There will be no visitation or service per request. Donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation. Personal condolences may be made through www.yorkfh.com
