Obituary of Wilma Edna Johnson

Please share a memory of Wilma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The passing of Wilma Edna Johnson of Fredericton, NB, occurred on Friday, September 27, 2024 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital with family by her side. Born on October 10, 1933 in Simonds, NB, she was the loving wife of Jack Johnson for 71 years and the daughter of the late Harley and Muriel (Breen) Shaw.

In addition to her husband, Wilma is survived by her children, Debbie Amirault (Allan), Donnie Johnson (Susan), Angie Murray (Robert) and Brent Johnson (Randa); grandchildren, Kyle (Lacey), Kate (Greg), Jeremy (Deanne), David (Kate), Drew (Hilary), Aaron (Madison) and Taya (Austin); great grandchildren, Paisley, Dallas, Kolt, Jasper, Liv, Isabel, Emmie, Violet, Dougie and Lizzy; siblings, Vivian MacLean and Alton Shaw (Jeanne); very special sisters in law, a brother in law as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Wilma was predeceased by her siblings, Earl, Elva and Dawson.

Wilma grew up on a farm in Simonds, graduated from Hartland High School, moved to Fredericton, attended Business college and then met the love of her life, Jack. She was a mother first for many years and then took a part-time job at the Harriet Irving Library where she stayed until her retirement at 65. She truly enjoyed and cherished the simple things in life; family time, celebrating birthdays and holidays, special outings with her friends, baking, reading, knitting, daily walks, gardening (giving special attention to her geraniums) and spending summers at the camp on Lake George.

She was a member of the Nashwaaksis Baptist Church.

Wilma, sadly, spent the last few months of her life at DECH. Many thanks to Dr. Rideout and the nurses and staff of 3SW....(special mention, Crystal) for the care and support throughout her stay. We would also like to thank all the support workers from Kindred who came each day and provided wonderful care.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 1:30-3:30 pm; followed by a private family interment at the Douglas Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
