Obituary of Lorenda Marguerite Betts

Please share a memory of Lorenda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The passing of Lorenda Marguerite Betts of Doaktown, NB, wife of the late Ray Betts, occurred on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.  Born on August 1, 1937 in Doaktown, NB, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Laura (Storey) Russell.

Lorenda was a loving mother and grandmother, also known as Grammy Doaktown. She was a special mother figure to her granddaughter Leah Day. She had a great sense of humour and was a lady of quick wit! Lorenda enjoyed golfing and had several hole in ones. She also tried her hand at clogging and she was an expert quilt maker. She also enjoyed many years of camping and playing and listening to bluegrass in the state of Maine with her husband Ray and participated in bluegrass music by playing her stand up bass. In the last couple of years since her husband‘s death, she has enjoyed going out with friends to Tim Hortons for coffee and playing guitar with her friends at least a few times a week. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Also, a thank you to the many nieces that kept in touch with her with phone calls, visits, cards and special treats. Thank-you to all the staff on 4E at the DECH, for doing such a wonderful job of taking care of her!

Lorenda is survived by her daughters, Norma Peterson (Leo) of Fredericton, Margaret George (Chris) of Fredericton; grandchildren, Leah Day, Laura Jewett and Kristin Ashworth; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Jean Russell and Lois Russell; several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Ronald Russell, Elsie McCormick, Mildred O'Donnell, Kenneth Russell, Wendall Russell, Gary Russell, Buddy Russell, Stanley Russell, Eugene Russell and Lonnie Russell.

Arrangements have been entrusted to York Funeral Home’s Miramichi Valley Chapel.
