Obituary of Inez Mary Anna Sturgeon

Please share a memory of Inez to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Inez Mary Anna Sturgeon (nee Bransfield) on September 15th, 2024 at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital, surrounded by family, following a brief illness. Born in Escuminac, NB on February 27, 1937 to Harvey Bransfield and Molly Jimmo.

Besides her parents, Inez is predeceased by the love of her life, Gordon, infant son Anthony, brother Earl Bransfield and sisters Vera Hay, Hazel Fowler, Kay Ryan, Betty Savoie, brother-in-laws Clinton, Everett, Cyril, Gerald and Thomas and sister-in-laws Greta, Thelma, Lolly, Jacqueline and Patricia and daughter-in-law Sheena Sturgeon.

Inez is survived by her sons Vincent (Kelly), Vaughn (Rhoda) and Sean (Tanya), 11 grandchildren (Connor, Turner, Hunter, Lauren, Mariah, Rebecca, Allison, Christian, Ella, Abigael and Shelby), a brother Claude (Cathy), sister Nina White and brother in-law Lyall Surgeon as well as many nieces and nephews.

Inez began working at an early age following the death of her mother when she was only 14. Together with some of her sisters, Inez operated the telephone switchboard service from her home in Escuminac and helped to raise her younger siblings and work the family farm. Inez began a long career in the healthcare field by first working as a Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomist and finally for the remainder of her career as an ECG Technician where she worked well into her 70s. Inez was a deeply spiritual woman and took her faith seriously. Inez gave back countless hours to her community through Pastoral Care, organizing baptisms, alter service and much more.

The true love of Inez’s life was her family and friends. Inez loved nothing more than being surrounded by a passel of rambunctious children and grandchildren, family and friends, sharing a meal, laughing and playing. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren and could often be found regaling everyone she knew about them. In her spare time, Inez was a great cook, avid gardener and loved animals from her favourite horse, Dot, dog Piedy and a pet pig who’s name escapes us. Inez was compassionate and supported many charities to help children and families.

Inez was a strong and independent woman and epitomized the true matriarch of the family and will be sorely missed.

A special thank you to the nurses and doctors on 4SW that took care of Inez in her last few weeks.
