the first time I met Fred was many years ago when he, Helen and Deb agreed to let Jessie bring her friend "me" along on one of their fun trips to Mardens. As much as Helen, Jessie and I enjoyed shopping in the fabric section that day I noticed Fred and Debbie were having a field day in the rest of the store. I specifically remember their purchase of bungee cords :)
The day wasn't to end with Mardens, Fred drove us to our next bargain the IGA food store. I learned there that Fred loved cheese. He showed me how low the prices were and proceeded to buy Asiago. I had never heard of that cheese before but I to ended up buying lots of bargain cheeses.
After much shopping we stopped for seafood chowder before heading home; Fred with a smile on his face and a car full of happy ladies.
Another very warm memory I will always have was the day I just happened to mention to Fred that we were looking to buy a ride on mower and blower. Fred said "I'm wanting to sell my John Deere, are you interested?" I said yes right away not knowing anything about tractors but knowing it had been in Fred's caring hands and what more did I need to know.
Fred set a price to which I agreed.
A few days before getting the Tractor Fred called and lowered that price. I said "no Fred" but being the man he was he insisted saying he had looked at prices recently and felt better selling it to me at the revised amount.
That tractor is still running after 20 or more years with us and is a constant reminder of Fred and his kindness.
Our hearts go out to you Helen, Deb, Cheryl and family
for the loss of this beautiful man.
