Obituary of Shirley Mae Greer
Shirley Mae Greer, age 98, of Douglas, NB passed away on August 6, 2024 at York Manor Nursing Home. She was born on August 15, 1925 in Chatham, NB, daughter of the late James and Jennie (Gorveatte) Nicholson, and was the beloved wife of the late Harley Greer.
After moving to Fredericton from Stouffville, ON with her loving husband, a retired carpenter, they built their retirement home in Douglas, overlooking the beautiful Saint John River. Shirley enjoyed crafts and over the years she made many beautiful afghans for her family. She was a member of the Douglas Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended every Sunday.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Linda Leighton of Moncton; son Gary McCabe of British Columbia; grandsons, Steven, Donald and Robert, all of Ontario; sister, Florence of Fredericton, NB; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her husband, Harley; daughter, Lorraine; brothers, Garnet, Everett, Abby and John; sisters, Beulah, Dorothy, Jean, Betty, Marjory, Molly and Nan.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of York Manor for her excellent care.
A Memorial Service will be held from York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 2 pm with Rev. Peter Moore officiating. Interment will take place at Dayton Cemetery in Douglas, NB, following the service.
