Obituary of Kaye (Catherine) Frederica O’Leary

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Catherine Frederica (Armstrong) O’Leary on July 5th, 2024 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, New Brunswick. Born on April 29, 1926, in Oromocto, she was a daughter of the late William and Gladys (Ward) Armstrong.

Kaye will be missed by her sons, Charlie O’Leary (Bonnie Culligan) and Ward (Carolyn) O’Leary; granddaughters; Elizabeth, Heather, and Karen; 9 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Gail Armstrong and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Charles, Kaye was predeceased by her brothers, Walter and Leonard; and sisters, Marguerite, Joyce, and Pat.

Kaye loved to dance with her husband Charles in her earlier years. She never drove a car and walked to get her own groceries, carrying them home until she was in her 80’s. This may have helped contribute to her great health as she was rarely sick. Kaye was once told years ago by her family doctor that she would live to be 100 years old. She almost did.

Kaye enjoyed having company and always had 3 different desserts in the fridge in case someone dropped in.  She always brought out cookies and milk when the grandchildren visited.  Kaye loved a good social event and always looked forward to the annual O’Leary family picnic.  She loved the horseraces and worked in the ticket booth at the raceway for several years. Kaye was an excellent seamstress and used to make most of her own clothing. She enjoyed many years of quilting and was a former member of the Fredericton Quilters Guild and the Parish Church Quilters.  Kaye was very generous with her quilts and gave several to friends and family when she heard a new baby was expected. She loved the music of Elvis Presley and proudly displayed a decorative plate with his photo. She also enjoyed their little pug, Ginger, when Ward and Charlie were young.

Kaye’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital for the care she received.

Visitation, funeral and reception will be held on Monday, July 8th, 2024 at Christ Church (Parish) Church starting at 9 am with visitation until 10 am; followed by a Funeral Service at 10 am with Rev. Canon Wandlyn Snelgrove officiating.  A reception will follow the service. The burial will be held at Saint John the Evangelist Anglican Cemetery in Beaverdam at approximately 12:15pm. A donation in Kaye’s memory can be made to a charity of your choosing. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
