Obituary of Marie Alberta Gates

Marie Alberta Gates passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2024 at York Care Centre, Fredericton, NB. Marie was born on January 5th, 1931 in Kentville, NS and was a daughter of the late Perry Brewster and Edith (Graves) Brewster. Marie was a quiet soft woman that loved and committed her life to her family.

She is survived by her children, Bill and AJ Gates, Rose Gates, Terry and Marlene Gates, Judy Woods, Warren Gates, Wendy and Ed Storey, Randy and Candy Ann Paul; a plenitude of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her loving husband of 39 years, Paul who passed March 1998. She was predeceased by bothers, Murray, Charles, close brother, Earl Brewster and much-loved sister, Bernice Hallet. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the care Marie received from York Care Centre and the support from extended family and friends.

A visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Monday, June 3, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. An intimate service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 2 pm with Pastor Normand McDonald for family and friends with a reception to follow. Interment will happen after service at the Pickard-Merrithew Cemetery in Keswick, NB, with grandsons Shawn Johnstone, Scott Gates, RJ Campbell, Evan Storey, Jeff Brewster and great-grandson Anthony as pallbearers.
