Obituary of Kassia Ferne Sweezey

Please share a memory of Kassia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kassia Ferne Sweezey of Fredericton, NB, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at her home on May 27, 2024. Born in Fredericton on December 30, 1969, she was the cherished daughter of Reigh and the late Elaine (Kinney) Sweezey.

Kassia's life was marked by purpose and passion. Her career took her from Canada Post to the classroom, where she found her calling as a devoted French immersion teacher. Her love for cats was boundless, and she found great joy in their companionship. Kassia's happiest moments, however, were spent in the company of her loved ones, particularly during the laughter-filled gatherings of Happy Hour. Her vibrant spirit, compassionate nature, and unwavering warmth touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. Kassia's presence will be profoundly missed, but her memory will forever remain a guiding light for those she held dear.

Left to mourn her loss and celebrate her life are her father, Reigh; son, Nicholas Shlakat; brother, Kyle Sweezey (Dale); nephew, Koen Sweezey; niece, Lily Sweezey; her maternal aunt, (Vivian Martin in Ontario); and several first cousins in New Brunswick, Ontario, and British Columbia.

Respecting the family's wishes, there will be no services at this time. A celebration of Kassia's life will be held at a later date, to be determined soon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Kassia's name may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or CARMA Cat Rescue. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com.
