Richard David Murphy (Deuce)

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard David Murphy announces his peaceful passing on May 24, 2024 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB with complications after a fall in early April 2024.  Richard was born in Fredericton, NB on August 23, 1946, son of the late James and Dorothy (Parker) Murphy of New Market, NB.

Richard is survived by his partner in life for the past 39 years, Susan Harris; his step children, Stephanie White (Jason) of Fredericton, NB and their daughter, Anna; and Jeff of Calgary, AB and his two children, Bae Li Jin Park and Elijah Lucas Brewster Harris.  As well, Richard is survived by siblings, Joan Stewart (late Gary), Floyd Murphy (Margie), Robert Murphy (late Leona), Teresa Goodine (late Raymond), Frances Mazerolle (Gregory), Mary Ward (late Ray), Paul Murphy (late Jean), Philip Murphy (Louise) and Kathy Densmore (Darrel) and sister in law, Barbara Hodge (late George).

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald (late Yvonne) and Frederick; nephew, Randy Murphy as well as in laws indicated above.

Richard studied carpentry at NBCC in St. Andrew’s and worked for several years in the carpentry business with his brother, Floyd.  They built many homes in the area.  In 1980 Richard began working for NB Liquor and maintained a career there for 34 ½ years.  Richard loved to chat with folks and many received regular phone calls from him in the past few years.  He was a kind soul and was a very hard worker. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to York Funeral Home.  Cremation has taken place and a Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Parish, Hanwell, NB on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 11 am with Father Bill Brennan as celebrant.  In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any donations in Richard’s name be made to St. Patrick’s Cemetery in New Market (cheques payable to St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish- memo St. Patrick’s Cemetery or to Hospice Fredericton.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
