Obituary of Manzer Hunter

The passing of Turney Manzer David Hunter of Nashwaak Bridge, NB, fiancé of Trish Lamkey, occurred on April 1, 2024 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on January 18, 1955 in Nashwaak Bridge. Manzer graduated from Stanley High School with the Class of 1973. He was the eldest living son of the late Bruce and Violet (Manzer) Hunter.

Manzer is survived by sisters, Phoebe Ann Bruce (Glen), Margaret Munn (Vincent), Elaine Hunter, Cindy Hunter (Peter), Gerry-Ellen Hunter (Neil); brothers, Bruce Hunter (Bev), Herbie Hunter, Kenny Hunter; along with several nieces and nephews and his beloved Harley Cat. 

Besides his parents, Manzer is predeceased by his daughter, Melanie Jill Hunter; son, Timothy Derek Joel Hunter; sister, Bertina "Jane" Hunter; two infant brothers, Richard and Claire; and step mother, Sylvia (Rushton) Hunter.

He had a very close bond to his Grandmother Gertie, (her favourite). Manzer had a true fetish for flames and fire from a very early age, Mother could never find a safe spot to hide the matches, he even hid them in his mouth for his next arson attack! Bonfires and campfires accompanied him throughout his life. Manzer was the #1 Jokester of the family. He had a wardrobe all his own and he was a Mr. Fix It, he loved his motorcycles and muscle cars. His favourite saying was, “It’s a brand new day, never been touched!” He carried a positive attitude knowing “No one is getting out of here alive!”

Manzer loved his Sports; golf, skiing, shuffleboard and baseball, his nickname was Vern, not sure why but I trust his fellow ball players could explain! Manzer’s friend saw, “Hunter” as a “Whiny Baby,” when a deck of cards came out and things were not looking like a win for him, rockets candy were on hand to soothe his loss.

Manzer had two children, they were his pride and joy, Melanie, his shining star and entertainer, and Timothy, his infant son. To this day there is a little red firetruck on a cabinet shelf as a reminder of his love. He loved all his family; his parents, sisters and brothers, he had a special bond with his Grandmother Gertie (her favourite), his step Mom Syliva and our extended family, his fiancé and best friend, Trish and all her family members. Manzer was the kind who made friends wherever he went, if he didn’t know you when he got there you were his friend before he left. There was never a child that did not gravitate to Manzer, he had a great love for all children.

Throughout his life he had many pets and each and all got love tender and pure, he trained his beloved German Shepherds as well as any trainer. He so enjoyed his dear pet, Harley Cat.

Manzer was never a man to shy from work, he had a career with Electric Motor Services which extended over 30 years, his name was announced as their “Pump Man! In the mornings on the radio proving his expertise. Water pumps, conditioners, softeners and electric motor rewinds to name a few. Manzer expanded his career and was employed by Scott’s Nursery, Canada Post snow removal, Moxon’s Country Pumpkin where he picked produce and sold at the Market. Manzer took time off from the water to venture out West and drove truck, worked as an equipment operator and drove the ice roads. He secured many new friendships which followed him. Upon returning home Manzer formed his own Company, M & H Residential Pumps & Conditioner Repair where he has finished off his career. Manzer had a work ethic he followed, “Never leave a man without water, if he didn’t get it that day he would be seeing your tomorrow!” Despite Manzer’s small shoe size, his footprint was very large and he has left an impact on many near and far.

The family of Turney Manzer David Hunter extends an enormous Thank You to all the dedicated staff at the DECH – the ER, 4SW, 3E. Special note of appreciation for Gregg, Jaden, Ashley, Emolee, Dr McDonald and Dr Ginn. Each and All of the DECH Staff were very caring and Manzer truly appreciated each and all their efforts.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 7-9 pm and Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 12-2 pm; followed by a Funeral Service at 2 pm. Pallbearers for the service will be Kenny, Herbie and Bruce Hunter, Breck Chamberlain, Richard Fraser and Race Racette. Honourary Pallbearers for the service will be sisters, Gerry Ellen Hunter, Cindy Hunter, Elaine Hunter, Margaret Munn, Phoebe Ann Bruce, Nephews: Michael Hunter, Andrew Ross, Clinton Nason, Dale Bruce, Gregg Bruce, Jeremy Munn, Richard Hunter, Jason Hunter, Bradley Pond, Friends; Tyrone Hubbard, Fraser Manzer, Truman Price, Jason Moxon, Steve Harvey, Donnie Lamkey, Dale McGivney, Paul Austin, Peter McArthur, the Billings Boys (Peter, Danny & Darren), Timothy McKay, John Wilson, Gary Storey. A Celebration of Life will follow with a big feast. Interment will take place in Nashwaak Bridge Community Cemetery, Nashwaak Bridge, NB, at a later date.
