Obituary of Neale Gordon Merritt

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Neale Gordon Merritt announce his passing on Wednesday, February 22, 2024 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB. Neale was born on September 30, 1952 to the late Raymond and Elsie (Tomilson) Merritt of Green Hill, NB.

Neale’s first job was with Arnold Dunphy at his Gas Station and Chain Saw Shop; he then went on to work for Spring Hill quarry for a few years. His primary career was working with his brother, Robert Merritt, in the woods for different companies over the years. Neale finished his working life at Napadogan Veneer Plant working the boiler and security. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, playing crossword puzzles, and watching Coronation Street.

Those who knew Neale knew he was a gentle soul and good man. He had good friends, Ronnie Hayes and Walter Sellick.

Neale is survived by his son, Gregory; daughter, Shelby (Brandon); and wife, Paula. Also survived by sister, Gale (Keith) Munn; brothers, Ralph (Anne), Robert (Janet), Dana (Brenda), and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Neale is predeceased by his brother, Hazen and infant brother, Dale.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Murray and Linda Haines for their care and kindness with Neale over the last 5 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 6-8pm. A private family graveside will take place in Hillcrest United Cemetery, Stanley, NB at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Just Friends Food Bank or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
