DRYDEN, JOHN LEONARD

The family of John Dryden husband of the late Mae (McAleer) Dryden is saddened to announce his passing at Hospice House Fredericton on January 16, 2024. John was born on June 15, 1936 at South Oromocto Lake, Charlotte County to the late Robert and Jessie Dryden. 

 

John graduated from Saint John Vocational School and went on to the Teacher’s College in Fredericton. He started his teaching career in St. George and in 1962 he moved to Fredericton Junction and spent the remainder of his career at Sunbury West High School (now Middle School). He retired at 54 and enjoyed 30+ years of retirement. He was a member of the RCMP auxiliary during the 1960’s. He was a lifelong member of the Liberal Party. He was elected to the Village Council of Fredericton Junction, and became Deputy Mayor in 1971. He became Mayor in 1974 for 2 terms.    


John was father to Judy (Bob), Wendell and James (Dawn); grandfather to Megan, Geoffrey, Katie, Samantha, Alex, Mark, Ryan, Emily, Terry and Colin; and great-grandfather to Greyson, Mac, Reid and Lily. He is survived by his brother Robert Dryden and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, John was predeceased by his brother James Dryden and sister Mary Hoyt.

 

A graveside service will be held at a later date. For those who wish, donations can be made to Hospice Fredericton. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
