MERNA MAE DUNPHY

 

The passing of Merna Mae Dunphy (nee STEWART), wife of the late Robert Marvin Dunphy, occurred on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the Oromocto Hospital. Born on May 11, 1930 to the late Henry and Mae Stewart. She grew up in Marysville on Front Row (River Street). Merna was the last living member of her family. 

 

She started her working career at the Marysville Cotton Mill. Once married, she worked for the family masonry business and raised her family. She enjoyed winters in Florida and summers at Grand Lake.

 

Merna was a loving mother to her children, Debra (Richard), Bobby (Debbie), Eric (Wendy), Terry (Paula) and stepdaughter Brenda (Grant) Losier. She is survived by 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, to whom she was known as ”Nanny Merna”. Merna looked forward to special visits from Taylor & Kyle Jewett, Bobby Greer, Richard Arsenault and Danny McLeod.

 

Merna spent her last 8 months at Farraline Care Home in Fredericton. The caring and friendly staff including: Lisa, Macayla, Maddie and Wendy and Ike who all took care of her and made her feel special. She also enjoyed the homecooked meals prepared by Heather and Donna. Her favorite spot at Farraline was the sunporch, where she enjoyed the garden, as well as people and dog watching along the green.

 

In keeping with Merna’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements are under the care of York Funeral Home. A family burial will take place in the spring.

 

The family would like to thank the DECH Emergency department and 4NE staff and the first floor staff at the Oromocto Hospital for all the care and attention Merna received while a patient. Thank you to York Funeral Home for all their assistance.
