Obituary of Willard Gilbert Merrill

Willard “Willie” Merrill of Green Hill, NB passed away surrounded by family at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at the age of 74. Willard will be missed dearly by his wife, Katherine (Greer); two daughters, Ola (Mark) and Holley; one son, Philip (Leah); grandchildren, Kirsten Merrill, Haile Thorburn, Julia Thorburn, Owin Theriault, Isabelle Merrill, River Moser, Benjamin Merrill, Isla Merrill, Bradley Merrill; one sister, Ella Mae Ward; sister-in-law, Maxine Merrill; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Willard worked as an orderly and EMT in Fredericton and Oromocto for 35 years. He also spent summer days painting homes. Memories of the family homestead in Greenhill remained close to his heart. He will be remembered for his contagious laugh, kind soul, care for others, his stories, and the celebratory dance at Royals Field. He was a family man and adored his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Gilbert and Elsie (Bishop) Merrill; brothers, Elwood, Walter (Hilda); sisters, Isla Chedore (Reginald) and Ola Merrill; brother-in-law, Duncan Ward.

Visitation to take place on Wednesday, December 20^th, 2023 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Journey Wesleyan Church. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 2 pm at Journey Wesleyan Church with Rev. Matthew Maxwell officiating, assisted by Rev. Janice Queale. Interment to take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers the family welcomes donations to Journey Wesleyan Church or to York Foundation (Community Outreach Programs).
