Obituary of Doreen Roberts
With very heavy hearts and profound sadness, the family of Doreen “Doe” Roberts (Hindy) announce her peaceful passing on December 11, 2023. We are tremendously proud and inspired by her strength, wit and unstoppable presence.
Doreen was born in Buchans, Newfoundland on Dec. 8, 1942, to Ralph and Olga Hindy. She was the eldest of six children.
Doreen will be missed incredibly by her three children: Glen, Debbie (Tom) and Sherry, along with her surviving siblings: Don, Rennee, and Doris, who stayed connected despite all living in different provinces.
In her early years, Doreen was a teacher in a little red school house and later became a librarian. She had a lifelong love of books, which she shared with many. When she wasn’t reading a British mystery, she loved gardening, yardsaling and watching Oak Island (or anything else on PBS and the BBC). She also loved spending time with her family and cooking for others. Her meals were always unmatched and her recipes could never be replicated (although we’ve tried).
Doreen's greatest joy was speaking proudly of her grandchildren: Ryan (Deidre), Haley (Conner), Micaela, Katrina (David) and Brent (Maggie), as well as her many great grandchildren, whom she adored immeasurably.
Doreen was the embodiment of tenacity. Despite persistent health issues throughout her life, she always persevered with her characteristic stubbornness, her wonderful sense of humor and her endless love for her family.
We would like to thank her support workers from Bayshore, Urban Rural Rides, Fredericton Kidney Association / Dialysis Unit, along with our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for Dr. Smith and Dr. Goodyear, who helped Mom to go in her own way (as always). We will be forever grateful.
At her request, there will be no funeral service. A visitation will be offered on Friday, December 15, 2023 at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, New Brunswick from 5 to 7 pm to remember her strong, fun spirit and to celebrate her life. Masks have been requested by the family.
Doreen supported the Homeless Shelter, Greener Village, and was supported herself
by our local Kidney Foundation. In keeping with her generous and compassionate nature, we welcome charitable donations in her memory to these local organizations that were dear to her heart. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
Our mother was our North Star and always brought us together. At night, she will forever brighten our sky.
Rest peacefully, "Doe". You damn-well earned it.
Visitation (Masks are required)
In Loving Memory
