Obituary of Fay MacKie

Please share a memory of Fay to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elsie ‘Fay’ MacKie of Durham Bridge, New Brunswick on Monday, November 6, 2023. Born to Elsie and Irvine (Tiger) MacKie on March 9, 1939, Fay was predeceased by her parents and a brother Irvel MacKie. She is survived by her sister Linda Little; her 3 children Wendy Sinclair (John), Robert Stirling, and Treva Penney (Sean); and her grandchildren Wyatt, Hilary, and Emma Sinclair, Sophie and Sydney Penney; and her beloved dog Bandit.

Fay was a skilled intensive care and psychiatric nurse; she later brought her healthcare experience to government where she retired in 2002 as the Director of the New Brunswick Medicare and Prescription Drug Program. She then worked as a healthcare consultant for ten years.

Early in her life Fay enjoyed sports and she was a great track and field athlete and tennis player. She also played the bagpipes and was a pipe band major for the New Glasgow Girls Pipe Band. At 65 she took up running again and was active within the local community of runners. She was a lover of animals and she relished spending time outdoors gardening, bird watching, and maintaining her properties in Durham Bridge, Keswick Ridge, and Creignish, Cape Breton.

Fay found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. She had a fierce capacity to love unselfishly and unconditionally and was always supportive in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Fay’s passing is a huge loss to us all but we are fortunate that she has left us each with the gift of many special memories.

Arrangements have been entrusted to York Funeral Home. Interment will take place at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Fredericton SPCA or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
