URQUHART, MARY JANICE

1941-2023

It’s with great sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Mary Janice Urquhart at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on October 13, 2023 at the age of 82 with her family at her side.

Janice was born in Harvey NB, daughter of the late Irvin and Bessie (Wilson) Little. She was the oldest of four children. She leaves behind her husband, Paul Urquhart of 62 years; three children, Jeff (Jennifer) of Trenton Ont., Jim (Jennifer) of St. Stephen, NB and Jonelle Sturgeon (Andrew) of Moncton, NB. She was the loving grandmother of nine grandchildren, Leah Urquhart (Mike Dobbelsteyn), Alicia Urquhart (Cory Maracle), Andrew (Rachel) Urquhart, Justin Beatty, Ashlyn Sturgeon, April Urquhart, Katie LeBlanc (Zach), Austin Beatty (Ainsley LeClair), Ruth Urquhart; eight great grandchildren, Dominic, Maverick and Emma Dobbelsteyn, Hunter and Harlee Maracle, Sparrow LeBlanc, Max Willigar and Spencer Beatty; sister, Sandra (George) Fletcher of Harvey, NB, Vaughn (Norma) Little of Harvey, NB; in-laws, Ron (Marie) Urquhart Pugwash, NS, Faith (Rick) Hunter of Fredericton, NB, Kathy (Ralph) MacFadyen of Calgary, AB, Roger (Margie) Urquhart of Holden, AB, Ellen Phillips of Upper Kingsclear, NB, Karen (Stephen) Cameron of Upper Kingsclear, NB and Carl Urquhart of Upper Kingsclear, NB; many special nieces, nephews, and friends.

Janice was predeceased by her parents Irvin and Bessie Little and mother & father in-law Alice and Blanchard Urquhart; brother, Bev Little; sister in-law, Beth Urquhart; brother in-law, Dow Phillips and nephews, Joey MacFadyen and Dwayne Urquhart.

Janice had a wonderful childhood growing up on her dad’s dairy farm in Harvey, NB where her brother Vaughn still lives today. She attended school at Harvey High and was very active basketball player. Went on to Business administration college and married the love of her life Paul. They met at a dance at the wagon wheel in New Market. Paul who was a police officer and was stationed in many locations over the province, so they moved from Silverwood, Fredericton, Bathurst, and Hampton. They owned a couple Restaurants in Hampton Kays Family Restaurant and White Oaks which she did the book work for those. She was a civilian administration officer for the Sea Cadet Corp in Hampton. She worked for many years doing accounting and bookwork at the Mazda dealership in Saint John and Fairview Dodge Chrysler in Fredericton. She and Paul were snowbirds for many years going to Largo Florida. She was on the New Brunswick snowbird association committee and loved going to Florida. She enjoyed the heat, swimming, shuffleboard tournaments (she was competitive ask her grandchildren about skip-bo games). Loved going to Bingo and playing radio Bingo. She loved her children with all her heart and lived for her family making sure they were taken care of. Loved baking special treats for them and well supplied with Jam and pickles. You could always find her sitting up late at night with her donuts and cheese catching up on her bookwork. She made many friends over the years wherever she went and loved to host and entertain people not wanting to miss out on an event.

A special thank you to the staff at York Care Center for the care and compassion and the doctors and nurses of 4NE at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital for the wonderful care the provided and comfort to the family.

By Janice’s request cremation will take place, there will be no visitation or service.  Interment will take place at the Kingsclear Baptist Cemetery on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 2 pm.  For those who wish, donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
