LAFOREST, PETER JOSEPH

1944-2023

With heavy hearts the family wish to announce his passing on September 29, 2023 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.  Peter is survived by his wife, Mavis of 56 years; two sons, Tim LaForest (Cheryl) and their children, Aaron, Natalie, Abigail, Jonas and Lucas; Steven LaForest (Judy) and their daughter, Sarah Andrew; great grandchildren, Liam and Lucas Houle; daughter in law, Debbie LaForest and her daughter, Kelly Munn; sisters, Patsy O’Neil (Frank), Sandra Hitchcock, Charlene Hanscomb (Perley), Carolyn Roach and Elizabeth LaForest; brothers, Patrick LaForest (Kathy), John LaForest (Kim) and Paul LaForest (Sylvie); several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Roger Cormier.

Peter was predeceased by his son, Christopher Michael LaForest; brother, Raymond (Gemma) LaForest; parents, Pat and Opal LaForest Jamieson; father and mother in law, Milan and Cora Hoyt; niece, Grace Emily Hoyt; and brother-in law, Leland Hoyt.

Peter worked for NB Power for 30 years and 11 months until his retirement.  Following his retirement, he continued to work at various locations, Kings Landing, Fort McMurray Airport as security, Mactaquac Provincial Park, Correctional Officer at the Fredericton Jail, Kingsclear Farm and the Perth Andover Jail.  He was an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Kingsclear, NB.  He enjoyed his time as a TOPS leader #1459 Nashwaaksis, NB. Peter also volunteered for the Ground Search and Rescue and the Keswick Ridge Fire Department for 15 years.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Monday, October 9, 2023 from 2-5 pm.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated from St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Kingsclear, NB on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 2 pm with Father Bill Brennan as celebrant.  Pallbearers for the service will be Joe Hoyt, Andrew-Sean Connor, Dale Hanscomb, Darrell Hanscomb, Brian Hoyt and Roger Cormier.  Honourary Pallbearers will be Elaine Gildart, Myrtle Wood, Joyce Fasquel, Hazel Turnbul and Judy and Clarence Coffey.  Interment will take place in Pickard Merrithew Cemetery.  For those who wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetes Canada, Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or to a charity of the donor’s choice.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
