Edythe Mary (Campbell) McKay, 99, passed away at the Central NB Nursing Home on Sunday, September 17, 2023.  She was born on February 6, 1924 in Boston, MA to Fred and Alice (Stone) Campbell.  She was the last surviving member of the Campbell family of Boiestown, NB.

Edythe was raised and educated in Florida.  She began her working career as a proof reader for a printing company before entering the health field as a nurse.  After retirement, she moved to Canada, where she cared for her father in a little cabin, overlooking the Southwest Miramichi River in Boiestown, NB.

Edythe loved to travel throughout Canada, with a highlight being a trip to the Yukon with her father.  Being a true nature lover, she could often be found hiking, canoeing and salmon fishing, capturing her experiences on film and canvas.

She was a member of Saint Peter’s Anglican Church in Boiestown where she was the organist for many years.  The Order of the Eastern Star, Hillcrest Chapter #40 in Boiestown, was an important part of her life journey.  While in her 70’s she learned to play the violin.  She was a writer of poetry and short stories, often performing and sharing her talent at local charities.  It is fair to say, that Edythe lived an enriched life.

Edythe is survived by her stepchildren, Terry (Marie) Main and their son, Dylan of Halifax, NS and Joyce (Frank) McCaffrey of Saint John, NB.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Joseph Laskowski (1982) and second husband, Doug McKay (2009).

Edythe’s life will be celebrated at York Funeral Home’s Miramichi Valley Chapel, 7681 Route 8, New Bandon, NB on Tuesday, September 26 at 2 pm with Mark Moir officiating.  Interment will take place immediately following the service in the Campbell Family Plot at the Boiestown United Church Cemetery.  Remembrances can be made to the Parish of Ludlow and Blissfield (St. James the Greater Anglican Church Siding Fund) or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
