Harold Arthur Breen, also known as Butch, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2023, at the age of 85 in Fredericton, NB. Born on April 28, 1938, in Saint John, NB, Butch was a beloved father and brother.

 

Butch will be profoundly missed by his surviving children, Joseph and Tania, as well as his sisters, Helen Brideau, Jean Osborne, and Margaret Cross. He was preceded in death by his father, Mark, his mother, Ada, his brothers James, Joseph, Tom, Arthur and Mark, sisters Mary, Theresa, Vera, and Tina.

 

Butch was known for his generosity and charitable nature. A true gentleman, his kind-hearted personality touched the lives of many.

 

After completing his education at St. Malachy's High School in Saint John, NB and earning his Engineering degree from St. Francis Xavier University, Butch pursued a career in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) from 1957 to 1992. As a Senior officer and aircraft captain pilot, he served his country with honour and dedication, retiring as a Major. In addition to his flying career, he was honoured to be selected to serve as a member of a United Nations Peacekeeping Force.

 

Outside of his professional life, Butch was an active member of the community. He worshipped at St. Theresa's Catholic Church and was involved in various organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, where he held the esteemed position of Grand Knight. He also served on the Parish Council at St. Theresa's. In his leisure time, Butch enjoyed golfing, fishing, and watching classic movies.

 

The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Windsor Court Retirement Residence for kindness, support and loving care in Butch’s final years.

 

A funeral service will be held at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Fredericton, NB on September 30, 2023 at 11:00 AM. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Butch will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, service, and dedication will forever be cherished by his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
