On behalf of staff and board of the Nature Trust of New Brunswick, I send thoughts and best wishes to Angus and Margaret's family at this time. Both Angus and Margaret were valued members of the Nature Trust and their support enabled us to protect many ecologically important parts of this province. We continue to do this important work, in their memory, so that future generations can know, have access to, and appreciate nature like they did.

Dear family of Angus Hamilton, I have been friends with Angus and Margaret since 1993 and they were both very dear to me. My husband and I stayed at Happy Apple acres quite a few times. I met Margaret through storytelling and quickly we became friends. I just received Angus's latest book and am reading and enjoying it. I phoned him on his birthday but there was no answer. I have phoned 4 times and was getting concerned. This morning I think that I tracked down Burt and sent a fb message. I just got the idea to check the obituaries for Fredericton and there I saw the sad news. What a wonderful couple they were. And what a lovely family they have. My sincere condolences at the sad time. May all the happy memories that you have, of both Angus and Margaret, be a blessing to you all with very fond memories of them both. Although I never met Angus face-to-face, he has loomed large in my work when I was curator of The Secrets of Radar Museum, and more recently as a participant in my PhD research. It was a great joy to interview him last summer. He told me then that he was working on finishing his final autobiographical work, and I'm glad to hear he completed just days before his passing. What an absolute legend! On behalf of myself and the Board of the The Secrets of Radar Museum, I offer Angus' family my deepest condolences.

Angus lived down the hill from me and was integral to my life at 122 Carlisle Road between 1992 and 2002. My life with them began when my sister, mom, dad and I stayed in their bed and breakfast the night before my wedding at Currie Mountain. Our wedding pictures include the Hamilton's family dog who wandered over. I'll never forget the wonderful breakfast and personal attention Margaret gave us on my wedding day. My husband Richard loved to go down and help Angus with the cider making, drinking maybe just as much cider as he bottled. When our kids came along, we would wonder through the orchard and the kids would pick an apple and hold it as a cherished possession. Margaret and Angus didn't shy away from having a couple with 3 kids under the age of two over for supper quite often and accepted our invitations too. We loved to roam the paths between Angus's property and Currie mountain where we would surreptitiously find memoriums to Nancy, in the form of whimsical woodsy displays and a tire swing the kids loved. Angus was always available with support and advice for a newly wed couple who didn't have a clue how to set up a hobby farm and fix things that needed fixing. We had an over 100 year old house. We have photos of the kids on his lap, he was so good with kids when, after we moved away from Frederiction, we would return for a visit and stay again at the bed and breakfast (the old house), in providing bicycles, and toys in and outside of the house. All these anecdotes highlight the fact that Angus was generous with his time, attention and knowledge, friendly, kind, ready to laugh and make jokes and didn't mind us trespassing over his property on a regular basis. He will definitely be remembered fondly.

Dear Family of Angus (and Margaret); It is with both sadness and joy that I hear of Angus's passing. Sadness that someone I loved, admired and respected has left us, but with joy and thanksgiving for his long and remarkable life! I have enjoyed the blessing of both Angus and Margaret's friendship, as my brother and sister in Christ, as well as their famous hospitality at Happy Apple Acres. I will treasure the memories of both of them, and times too numerous to recount here, but a few favorites are the visits to their home, the trips up Currie Mountain, the Easter celebrations in the orchard; 'apple blossom time' on the farm, my friendship with their beloved son Jamie and his various doggies, and the peace and security I felt as a younger person in their home. I will love and appreciate them forever, and the part they played in my life in my 20's and all the good times they helped create at their farm for me and many others. I especially loved to listen to your Dad tell me stories of his time in India and in the Northern parts of Canada. Going to dinner at the family home was the closest I will ever become to feeling that I was at a meeting of the 'United Nations', as seated around the big old farm table were Angus' international colleagues from his days at UNB, where often several languages were spoken not know to us all, but the mutual appreciation for friendship and loving hospitality were clearly present! I was just thinking of you Dad, right out of the blue, on Sunday afternoon and now I know why. Please know that my heart and prayers will be with you today at the time of his service and in the days to come even though work commitments keep me from attendance. The memory of this kind man, both brave and true, will remains with me and be honored in my heart and memory until I join Angus, Margaret, Nancy, and our beloved Jamie, at that great feast that awaits all believers. My love and thanks to all the family for sharing both your Dad and Mom with me. You are loved, as their extended family, by this member of their Northside community. My prayer for you is that you will experience the healing grace of God surrounding you at this time, and in the days that follow. Joanna Price, Fredericton

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wonderful family. Angus was one of the finest men I have ever known.
Shortly after we launched our boat The Wood Duck in 2020 which was intended to be a commercial pedestrian ferry Angus showed up with an old pair of wooden water skis and a new tow rope from Canadian Tire.
He announced that the grandchildren from BC would be visiting this summer and would like to go for a ski. Sure enough we got the boat rigged up for skiing, the grandkids came, and away we went in the river channel in front of our place. Even Angus, who was a youthful 78 took a turn and managed to get up, although he never did straighten his knees.

Angus and Margaret were wonderful to myself and my three children. I was a single mother when I came to Fredericton in 1985. I helped with the Bed and Breakfast for a few years. I learned so much from them: hard work and determination. What it was like be a team and do hard work! They were there for us for several years. I met their wonderful family and brilliant grandchildren! Jamie and I hung out for a few years. Jamie used to take the children and I on outings. I consider myself fortunate to know and be part of this wonderful family..I completed my BA at St Thomas and often thought of Angus and Margaret being my mentors. I moved to USA in 1998 but stayed in touch and my husband and I went to the Honeymoon suite for a wonderful stay with Margaret and Angus. And they offered our family from the Miramichi a weekend at the Bed and Breakfast. They helped us make special memories. I’ll keep them close in my heart forever. Happy Apple Acres was a Special place to be! My condolences to their Beautiful family and Thanks..

Dear Anne and Angus’s family,
With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of Angus Hamilton – a beloved faculty member, former department chair, and retiree of the Department of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering at the University of New Brunswick. Above all, Angus was our inspiring mentor, colleague, and friend.
Angus was a kind, caring, and compassionate gentleman who always went above and beyond to support others. One month ago, we had been looking forward to his attendance at our Fredericton historical online mapping project meeting on March 17th, 2023, where he had planned to share his witness account about the historical development of Fredericton with us. It was unfortunate that he was unable to make it to the meeting, and his passing on April 15th, 2023, just a few days before his 101st birthday, has left us all deeply saddened.
Angus's warmth, kindness, and generosity will always be remembered by all of us who had the privilege of knowing him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to you and your family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.
Yun

During my studies in UNB (1977-1981) under Surveying Engineering Programme, my first U-Pick apple experience was in Angus Apple Orchard Garden. From then, I always looking forward for his invitation of the students to go to his fruits garden for U-picks, taste the apple cider, BBQ etc. Sad to hear that he has left this world and my deepest condolences to his family members and pray that Angus will Rest In Peace with GOD.

I was sorry to hear of Angus' passing and wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you all. Visits with Angus hold great memories for his gift of sharing family stories and his sincere interest and curiosity of others. I recall fondly Marg and Angus' visits to our farm as a child, a trip to Douglas and the orchard and thrilled when they visited Tony and I in our home in Ilderton and learned how close we live to where Margaret grew up. Even in emails Angus had a gift to convey a warm connection. A truly remarkable man. I will miss him. Heather

I first met Angus as an incoming first year student in Surveying Engineering at UNB in early September 1971. We were both brand new to the program -- I was a rookie student and he had just moved to UNB from a Federal Civil Service professional career in Ottawa. He taught us all a number of courses through our undergraduate years and, with time, I developed a growing sense of admiration for the practical and often insightful lessons he offered. That admiration only grew in later years after I returned for postgraduate studies and remained in the area. His service to the UNB Surveying Engineering Department and its programs was outstanding. His "LIS '90" Workshops in the late 1970s and 1980s laid the foundation for significant changes to land administration in New Brunswick. So many of us have happy memories of the many wonderful social events he and Margaret hosted at Happy Apple Acres. His hard work, wise advice and personal example inspired generations of students, faculty and practicing professionals working across Canada and around the world. Rest in Peace, Angus.
