Obituary of Gary Joseph McDade

Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gary Joseph McDade, husband of Helen Marie (Flinn) McDade, on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital with his sister and wife at his side.  Gary was born on September 29, 1948 in McAdam, NB to Harold (Bud) McDade and Alma (Crowley) McDade.

Gary was an active life member of the Royal Canadian Legion holding the position of Treasurer of NB Provincial Command for over 20 years, and on the executive of Branch #4, Fredericton.   His great passion for years was playing shuffleboard on Saturdays and in the Provincial Shuffleboard Tournaments around the Province.  Gary was also an avid Red Sox fan much to his mother's dismay.

Gary is survived by his wife, Helen; his parents, Bud and Alma McDade; brothers, James (Gerrie) of Mississauga, Frank (Lori) of Quispamsis, Terry (Ft. McMurray); sister, Mary MacLeod of McAdam; sister-in-law, Lori (Larry) Brewer of York Mills.  He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Walter (Nancy) Flinn, Laurie (Sandra) Flinn, Gary (Alice) Flinn, Bill Flinn, Robert Marshall; sisters-in-law, Kay (Dave Long) Hansen and Joyce Harvey; and several nieces and nephews.

Gary was predeceased by his brothers, Ronnie and Michael; niece, Kate MacLeod; sister-in-law, Ruth Marshall and his mother-in-law, Helen Flinn.

The family wishes to thank the paramedics and firemen who came to the house, the ER staff and especially the ICU staff you made him as comfortable as possible.  They all could not have shown more compassion to Helen and Mary during his last few hours.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, April 6, 2023 from 1-2 pm; followed by a Memorial Service at 2 pm with Rev. Brian MacDonald officiating.  Members of the Royal Canadian Legion are asked to assemble at 1:45 for a Legion Tribute Service at 2 pm.  A reception will follow the service at the Royal Canadian Legion, 365 Smythe Street, Fredericton, NB.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Poppy Fund would be greatly appreciated.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
