Obituary of Robert Frederick Allen

 

 

 

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Robert Frederick Allen of Fredericton, NB, husband of Shirley (Larsen) Allen, occurred on February 25, 2023 at Shannex - Neill Hall.  Born on March 2, 1939 in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Laura (Doiron) and Ray Allen.

 

In his youth Bob loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, a cold Olands and his home in Penniac.  After the early death of his father he took on the role of caring for his mother while starting a family of his own.  He loved tinkering in the garage and took great pride in the house he and Shirley designed and built.  An avid hunter and marksman he was always invited along when anyone got a moose license.  After a stroke changed his life and left him partially paralyzed in 1990 he was cared for by his loving wife.  The two put on many miles over the years as he loved to go driving.  After a fall, it became apparent that he could no longer live safely at home he moved first to Frederick Hall then later to Neill Hall to be closer to his beloved Penniac.

 

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff who became his second family during the years he lived there.

 

Thirty-three years ago we grieved for what might have been.  Now we grieve for what was.   Until we meet again……

 

Robert is survived by daughters, Catherine Ginson and Carrie Golding (Barry); grandchildren, Nicole, Jesse, Cassandra, Andrea and David; great grandchildren, Mya, Chris, Audrey, Oliver, Charlie and Tommy; sisters,  Jeanette Coy (Walter), Edith Kirby (William);  several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by sister, Joan Carmody (Don). 

 

There will be no funeral or visitation.  Interment will take place at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Wildlife Federation.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
