Obituary of Gayle Josephine Melanson

It is with sad hearts that the family of Gayle Josephine Melanson announce her passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Monday, February 13, 2023. She was born in St Stephen, NB on July 20, 1938 to the late William and Zelda (Fountain) Hanifan. Gayle served as a special caregiver for many years. When she wasn’t caring for her clients at the special care home you could always catch her playing bingo with friends and family at Saint Mary’s Entertainment Centre, camping at many places like the Everett’s Camp ground, Mactaquac, Grand Lake and especially T.N.T Camp Ground. Not only did she enjoy bingo and camping but Gayle also found enjoyment in doing crossword puzzles and playing darts with family and friends.

Gayle was predeceased by her husband, Freddie Joseph Melanson for a short time before she joined him in heaven after 64 years of marriage; her brother, Murray Hanifan; sister, Jean Little and her beloved granddaughter, Chelsey Lynn Marie Arseneault Nash.

Gayle is survived by her children, Jody Melanson (Debbie), Vicky Melanson (Stephen), Daniel Melanson (Louise), Colette Nash (Russell) and Pamela Collings (Heath); her grandchildren, Lacey Melanson, Kaitlynd Collings, Cara Nash (Zach) and Laurence Collings; great grandchildren, Madison and Ally Waugh, Jordan Albert and Oliver Sorken; brother, James Hanifan and many special nieces and nephews. And her Loving companion Muwin.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at the DECH for their exceptional care. Special thanks to nurses at 4SE and 4NW for their compassion and care during our time of need.

Visitation will take place for both Gayle and her husband Freddie (who passed away January 4, 2023) at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 2-5 pm.  For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
