The passing of John Edward Toon of Fredericton, NB, husband of Dianna (Cochrane) Toon occurred on Friday, February 3, 2023 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.  Born on November 26, 1945 in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late James and Fredericka (Colwell) Toon.  He was a member of Journey Wesleyan Church (formerly First Wesleyan Church), Fredericton, NB.  He graduated from NB Institute of Technology. John was a Civil Technician (Engineering Department and Business Information Systems) at NB Power for 38 years. He was a member of the Canadian Red Cross, Silver Dolphins, Floor Shuffle Board and Best Years group at church. John had a love of nature, especially enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels. 

 

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughter, Julie Jackson (Paul); sons, Mark Toon (Sarah Lamarche) and Brent Toon (Chantal); grandsons, Dylan and Gareth Jackson; brothers in law, Harry Gilmore (Gloria) and Blair Cochrane (Kathy); nieces and nephews, Tammy, Andrew, Chantelle, Nick and their families.  Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth “Liz” Gilmore and infant twin brothers, Donald and Ronald.   

 

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Monday, February 6, 2023 from 2-4 pm.  A Memorial Service will take place at Journey Church, 131 Duncan Lane, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 2 pm with Rev. Matthew Maxwell officiating. The service will also be available through the churches facebook page (Link available at www.yorkfh.com).  In lieu of flowers, remembrances in John’s memory may be made to Journey Church, Canadian Diabetes Association, War Amps or to a charity of the donor’s choice.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
