John Norquay

Obituary of John William Norquay

John William Norquay, aged 75, passed away unexpectedly at the DECRH on Thursday, February 2nd.  Born January 25th, 1948 in Keswick Ridge NB, he was the youngest of four children to the late Ellen and William Norquay.

Dad married the love of his life, Nancy (Morton) and they recently celebrated 52 years of wedded bliss this past November.  They called Nashwaaksis home where they raised their children, Rodney and Christine.

Dad was a proud heavy-duty mechanic, working his entire career on machinery whenever duty called, regardless of the temperature or the time of day.  He loved getting a call from friends and family to give a hand fixing whatever was broken.  He always enjoyed the woods, and getting out cutting firewood was a great hobby.  He loved going up to Brian’s woodlot where they would get lost for a while on their ATV’s.  He spent many years around the rinks lugging the kids to whatever hockey or ringette event was happening.  As much as he liked the sports, he loved the fun he had with the other parents just as much.  In his later years, he would spend time driving around the Northside in his old truck making sure that everything was in order.

John is survived by his wife, Nancy; son Rodney (Cary) of New Maryland NB; daughter Christine (Brian) of Fort McMurray AB; four beloved grandchildren, Marcus, Sophie, Kate and Luke; sisters Marion Allen and Bernice Ripley; many nephews and nieces, special nephew Lester, whom held a special place with Dad.  Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Helen Merrithew.

There will be no visitation or service at John’s request. A Family Graveside Service will be held at the Douglas Rural Cemetery in the Spring.  For those that wish, a donation can be made in memory of John to Diabetes Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
