Obituary of Alice Almeda MacFarlane

The passing of Alice Almeda MacFarlane of Fredericton, NB, formerly of Nashwaak Bridge, NB occurred on Monday, January 30, 2023 at York Care Centre – Dixon Lodge.  She was predeceased by her husband, Harold MacFarlane in 1973.  Mother was the last surviving member of her immediate family.  She was born on October 17, 1924 in Nackawic, NB, the daughter of the late Mildred (Davidson) and Ralph Stairs.

Alice is survived by her children, George (Sally) of Fredericton, James (Berniece) of Stanley, Barbara Bailey (Charles) of Hammonds Plains, NS, Mary Thornton, Judy Richardson (George), Susan “Sue” MacFarlane and Christina “Tina” Kelly (Terry) all of Fredericton, NB and Richard “Ricky” of Rankin Island.  She was blessed with 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren; two sisters in law, Ida (MacFarlane) Carson of Nackawic and Alice Stairs of Meductic; son in law, Stan Ahrens of London, ON; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to her parents, Harold “Dad”, mom was predeceased by her granddaughter, Jennifer MacFarlane (1995); son in law, Brian Thornton (2012); her eldest daughter, Jean Ahrens of London, ON (2018); her siblings, Bertram (Myrtle), Irma Stairs, Marie Williams (Travis), Louise Lenentine (Merritt) and Frederick; she was also predeceased by dad’s siblings, Nina Morrison (Bill), Perley (Doris), Merle (Kay), Edith, Dorothy Pickard (Bud), Robert (Helen), George (Maudie), Paul (Joan), Gerald (Flossie) and Priscilla.

A Memorial Service will be held at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 2 pm with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating.  Masks are required.  A reception and gathering will be held afterwards.  Interment will take place in Nashwaak Bridge Cemetery in the spring.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
