Obituary of Claire Elizabeth Saunderson

Please share a memory of Claire to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Claire Elizabeth (Burden) Saunderson age 81, on Dec 26.

Born in Fredericton, Claire spent her youth on the family farm in Pokiok, where she learned many valuable lessons, most importantly that she wanted to live in the city.

For many years, she and Harold owned and operated the IGA on Main Street in Fredericton. Later she co-owned and managed Remax Realty and made many friends over the years.

Claire graduated at the top of her class from Southampton High School. She was smart, popular and full of mischief. As a youngster she enjoyed many sports and excelled at basketball, despite being one of their shortest players.

Her hobbies and interests were vast and varied. They included raising English Bulldogs, Bingo, Stained Glass, teaching her dog tricks, learning to unicycle, painting, playing cards, eating bacon.

She was a founding member of the Union Street Sewing Circle (USSC) which to the best of our knowledge has produced 1 quilt in the 30 plus years that they met.

Claire’s tenacity and vivaciousness will be missed by all who knew her. We love you Claire, and you are already greatly missed.

Claire is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harold Saunderson of Fredericton, and two sons, Jeff (Sue) and Doug (Ellen). Siblings Helen Stairs of Michigan, Marjorie (Robert) Sharpe of Riverview, Neal (Carolyn) Kerton of Pokiok. Granddaughters Stacey Brown and Krista Munn, and several nieces and nephews.

Claire was predeceased by her parents Neal and Jean (MacMillan) Burden.

At Claire’s request there will be no visitation or funeral. For those who wish, donations can be made to the Oromocto SPCA or Hospice Fredericton. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
