Obituary of Sheila Joan Macdonald

 

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Sheila Joan Macdonald, 87, on December 3, 2022 in Fredericton, N.B.

Sheila was born in Montreal, Quebec on March 13, 1935. She is survived by her three children, Janine (Shawn) Bringloe, Kathleen (Nikolas) Dafopoulos and David (Helen) Macdonald; seven grandchildren, Sasha (Patrick), Chelsea (Quinn), Alex (Maddy), Sarah, Emma, Rachel and John; and two great grandchildren, Halle and Levon. Also left to mourn are mom’s sisters Sue (Ed) Millington, Sherry (Norrie) Stewart, Julie (Gerry) Hurlow, Barbara (Mike) Chrumka and Cathy (Des) Beauvais. She was predeceased by her parents Dave Trottier, Kathleen Simpson and stepmother Barbara Trottier, and also by her husband Robert James Macdonald, whose love and companionship she was blessed with for 52 years until his passing in 2012.

Mom had a zest for life. She was an avid gardener and spent many hours nurturing her huge garden. She was a lover of nature and feeding the birds and squirrels. She enjoyed baking, swimming, cross-country and downhill skiing, golfing and quilting. She was a lifelong member of the Fredericton YMCA and in her younger days, enjoyed many long walks through the woods with her grandchildren and dogs.

Of Christian faith, mom attended church throughout her life, participating in the choir and parish functions. She made friends with everyone she met and was loved by all who knew her. Mom was remarkably kind and welcoming. She had a smile that would light up a room. She was extremely resilient, never complained and always had a positive attitude. Everything was always “just fine”.

We will miss her every day for the rest of our lives. But we will cherish the love that she had for us and the good memories we shared as they will last a lifetime.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive. There will be no visitation by request. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Sheila's life will take place at Holy Family Church, Hanwell Road on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 12 pm with Father John Jennings as celebrant. A reception will take place in the church hall downstairs following the service. All are welcome.
