Obituary of Helen Marie Moore

The passing of Helen Marie Moore of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Garnet Moore, occurred on November 18, 2022 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.  Born on November 4, 1931 in Penniac, NB, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Lois (Gilmore) Wade.   

Helen’s education began in a one-room school in Penniac where she completed grades 1-8.  She then graduated from Fredericton High School in 1948, following which she entered University of New Brunswick receiving a BSc (Honours) (Chemistry) in 1952.   

Following her marriage in 1953 and births of her children, Helen returned to UNB joining the organic group, Department of Chemistry, where she worked for over 30 years, retiring in 1994.  During this time she loved her interactions with graduate students and post doctoral fellows who came to UNB from all over the world to study chemistry.   

Helen was a member of the United Church of Canada and she participated in many activities of the church.  She was also a member of the Nashwaak Bicentennial Association during its life time.   

Helen loved to bowl and made many friends in the various leagues she joined.  Her other interests included knitting, quilting, jigsaw puzzles, Wordle, Canuckle and Nerdle (becoming Wordle Queen) and reading (especially audio-books).   

Helen is survived by son, Dean (Marlene) Moore;  daughter,  Elaine (Hector) Losier; grandson, Jami (Melissa McCallan) Moore; granddaughter, Samantha (Timothy Bourque) Moore; great grandsons Ethan, John and Cameron Moore; great granddaughter, Summer Bourque; brother, Murray (late Norma) Wade; sisters, Sara (late Malcolm) Stewart and Alice (late Maurice) Tucker; brother in law, Byron (Barbara) Moore; sister in law, Florence (late Douglas) Moore; several nieces and nephews.   

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Janice Moore; brother Albert (Mathilda) Wade; brothers in law; Earl (late Irma) Moore, Lewis (late Pearl) Moore, Douglas (Florence) Moore and Maurice (late Joan) Moore.   

The family wish to say thank-you to EMT, all nurses and doctors at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in all units where she was a patient.  Their care and compassion was above and beyond.  Thanks especially to Dr. Carolyn Barry and Dr. Paul Kerr, Helen’s family doctors for many, many years.   

Keeping with Helen’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service.  Interment will take place in Penniac United Church Cemetery at a later date.  Donation may be made to Fredericton SPCA, Chalmers Hospital Foundation, Friends of the Penniac Baptist Church and Cemetery or to a charity of donor’s choice.   Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
