Obituary of John Vernon MacDonald

The passing of J. Vernon MacDonald of Keswick Ridge, NB, husband of Shirley (Jardine) MacDonald for 55 years, occurred on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on March 29, 1942 in Black River, NB, he left school as a teenager to work as a painter and continued in the profession as a painting contractor until the day of his passing. Vernon lived life generously, and demonstrated that readily among his family, work family, community, and church.

In addition to his wife, Vernon is survived by his children -- Cynthia O’Donovan (Terry) of Sioux Lookout, ON; Brent MacDonald (Wendy) of Rusagonis, NB; and Pam Staples (Andrew) of Keswick Ridge, NB; his grandchildren -- Noah, Matthew, Gillian, Jacob, Christopher, Katie, and Hannah; his siblings -- Helen Pauls (Fred), Dianne Wilson, Brenda Watling, sister-in-law Dawn Holland, and numerous nieces, nephews, stepsisters, and stepbrothers.

Vernon was predeceased by his mother and stepfather, Marion and Arthur Holland, brother, Blaine Holland, and brothers-in-law Gerald Watling and David Wilson.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB, on Sunday, November 13, 2022, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will take place at Keswick Baptist Church on Monday, November 14, 2022, at 1 pm with Rev. Eric MacKinnon officiating. Interment will take place at the Keswick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Keswick Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
