Loretta “Faye” Stewart, wife of the late Basil Stewart, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Elva Cleghorn on Monday, October 31, 2022.  She was 94 years of age.  Born on October 5, 1928 in Taymouth in the Dodds Homestead, she was the daughter of the late Bruce and Dot (Dodds) Stewart. 

Faye was the last surviving member of her immediate family, she spent her early years and married life in Zionville and Taymouth, NB.  Before her marriage, Faye taught in one room schools in Coal Creek and Zionville.  Faye was a past member of the St. John Ambulance Service and was an attendant on the Stanley Ambulance Service.  A proud member, and co-founder of the Nashwaak Bicentennial Association, she provided genealogist talents and was main history researcher for the association.  Along with her sister, Ina MacLaggan she co-authored a book called Nashwaak Families, and contributed to the book “And The River Rolled On History of the Nashwaak.  Faye was an avid gardener.

Faye is survived by four sons, Bill Stewart (Nettie Moran), David Stewart (Linda Evans), Peter Stewart and Sandy Stewart; six daughters, Marilyn Evans (Stephen), Connie McNeil, Sylvia Moffat, Elva Cleghorn (Rick), Vera Stewart and Peggy Talbot (Maurice); 24 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Brucie Stewart; sister, Ina MacLaggan, Jean Dougherty and Vera MacBean; brothers, Bill Stewart and Andrew Stewart; granddaughters, Whittney Hay, infants, Faye Benthien, Marilyn Jill Darrach and Sawyer Ryan.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 1-3 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 3 pm with Rev. Chris Bennett officiating.  Interment will take place in Taymouth Community Cemetery.  For those who wish, remembrances may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer Foundation or the Taymouth Community Cemetery.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
