Obituary of Wayne Paul McDonnell

We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Wayne Paul McDonnell in Fredericton on Monday, October 10, 2022 at the age of 78.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Frances; his children, Jody and Jennifer, and his granddaughter, Emily. He was predeceased by his siblings, Floyd, Jack, Roy, Merle, Renee, and Shirley, his parents, Dennis and Stella (Beaudry) McDonnell.

Born on June 29, 1944 in Belledune, NB, Wayne moved to Fredericton in 1966. He was a heavy equipment mechanic for 25 years, and he was heavily involved in the community. Wayne was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Cub Scout Leader, volunteered at the local food bank, and a very active parishioner and caretaker for St. Anthony’s; where he was also a member of the parish council. 

Wayne enjoyed going ice skating on the pond and walking in the woods near his home in Lower St. Mary’s, where he lived for 50 years.  He loved country music, playing the guitar, and visiting family in Belledune on long weekends. Wayne survived two bouts of cancer and the family is eternally grateful to Dr. Brian Wheelock. 

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of York Care Centre, Tower 1, for their excellent care and compassion over the last few months.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 6-8 pm.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated from St. Anthony’s Parish on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 1 pm with Father Maria Arokiam Chinnappan as celebrant. Interment will take place in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of New Brunswick or the Greener Village Food Bank in Fredericton.
