The passing of Berendina Maria “Diny” (Hartjes) Joordens of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Thomas “Thom” Joordens occurred on Tuesday, Sept 12th, 2023 at the Shannex Thomas Hall.  Born on February 21st, 1934 in Lichtenvoorde, the Netherlands, she was the daughter of the late Jan and Maria (Perik) Hartjes.  Diny’s family, the Hartjes, came to Canada after WWII when Diny was still a teenager.  Diny has four sisters, Joke, Wilma, Thea and Liz, and three brothers, John, Ted and Andy. True to her heritage, Diny loved growing and enjoying flowers, and she also created all the outfits that Thom and she wore during his time as Fredericton’s Town Crier.  She was a devoted Mother and Oma and will be dearly missed by all of us who loved and continue to love her so deeply.

Diny is survived by her three daughters, Marianne Joordens, Terry Wilkins (Ed), both of Lincoln, NB, and Michele Poirier of Sooke, BC; her son, Steve Joordens (Sue) of Toronto, ON; her grandchildren, Chantele Joordens, Tom Martinson, Buddy Wilkins and Nicole Malley, Matthew and Jake Poirier, Darci Gallant and Dayna Dickinson; and her great grandchildren, Bryson Cusack, Kenze Malley, Isabelle Brewer and Aiden Joordens, Carter and Ireland Skillen, Ashleigh, Jeslynn, Kinsleigh and Colson Gallant, Eliana and Jaxon Garcia.

She will be laid to rest at the Canadian National Cemetery in Ottawa, reuniting with her beloved Thomas.  For those who wish, remembrances may be made at the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
