COX, Marlene Frances (Driscoll) – passed away suddenly at home in Fredericton, NB on Thursday, March 28, 2024.

Born on July 11, 1952 in Halifax, NS to the late C. Stewart Driscoll and Evelyn Cecelia Amiro, Marlene spent her early years in Yarmouth and Waterville, NS before moving with her family first to Oromocto in 1958, then Werl, Germany from 1962 to 1965 before returning to Oromocto where she completed her schooling and raised her own family.

After working at a few other jobs while her children were growing, Marlene was then one of the first employees hired at UPS in Fredericton where she worked for 24 years until her retirement in 2019. She made many lasting friendships from her co-workers and maintained these relationships up until her death.

She is survived by her sons, Tim (JoAnne) Cox of Fredericton, NB and Jason Cox (stationed in Germany), and their father, Terry Cox of Fredericton, NB; her brother, Bruce (Marilyn) Driscoll of Oromocto, NB; her sister, Marlene Harris of Nova Scotia, as well as nieces and nephews on both the Cox and Driscoll sides of the family.

Marlene was proud of both her Irish and Acadian ancestry and was a member of the local Chapter of the Irish Canadian Cultural Association of NB. She loved to read anything she could get her hands on, especially science fiction and fantasy genres, enjoyed writing poetry, took weekly horse-riding lessons for many years and, in her retirement, loved to create quilts for her friends and family. She had many valued friends among her former UPS co-workers and her horse-riding group and still kept in touch with several old friends from high school. She especially enjoyed time spent with dear friends, Virginia, Vickie and Tammy. She will be missed by all.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service taking place in York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 12 pm followed by a visitation and reception with the family in the Fireside Room until 3pm, where all are welcome to attend. Sharing stories and words about Marlene is encouraged. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA, where she adopted her loving pets Quintin and Druid. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
