Dear Lynn, Chantale, Sylvie, Joelle, mother Anita and all of Andre's extended family, My heart aches for the loss of Andre. It was a shock to read of his passing, as I had no idea that he had not been well. His love for all of you was extraordinary, as he spoke about you often. May you cherish the many memories that you have. I hope the outpouring of love and stories shared will give you strength to get through this difficult time. Please know that Andre left his mark in the audiology and speech-language pathology world. Never, have I met an audiologist or SLP with such passion, dedication and professionalism! He fought for what he believed and he knew what he was talking about. I think of the professional association meetings we had attended together, the times we shared at conferences, his beautiful photography, his dancing, a proud husband/father/grandfather, and a brilliant man who truly cared. André Gustave Joël Lafargue, known to friends as Dédé, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 in Fredericton at the age of 67. André was born in Saint-Pierre on June 13, 1952, and he spent his childhood on the French islands of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. He moved to Canada in 1969 as an international student and obtained a B.Sc. (1971), B.A. (1971), and M.A. (1974) at Memorial University of Newfoundland and a M.Sc. (1976) in Audiology and Speech Sciences at the University of British Columbia. After his studies, he returned to Atlantic Canada to pioneer an audiology and speech language pathology department in central Newfoundland. André moved with his family to Fredericton in 1987 to lead the development of these services in central New Brunswick. Recognizing the importance of service to his profession, he volunteered in a variety of capacities, including terms as president of his professional associations in both NL and NB, and president of his national association. In 2014, he received a lifetime achievement award from Speech-Language & Audiology Canada for his many contributions, notably his long-time advocacy for programs such as hearing screening at birth, community and school-based speech language pathologists, and classroom audio enhancement systems. Upon his retirement from public service in 2012, he transitioned to the private sector, building Avenir Hearing’s Fredericton clinic. André drew great professional motivation from his role in facilitating human connection through enhancing communication. In addition to his many professional accomplishments, André was passionate about photography, genealogy, and travel. He enjoyed visiting and corresponding with friends and extended family that he met online through his research. He loved to dance with his wife of over 40 years, Lynn, who followed his lead until the band stopped playing. André was the life of the party and his energy and enthusiasm earned him the endearing nickname of “la tornade” (tornado), given to him by his mother, Anita. He is survived by his wife, Lynn; mother, Anita Sollier Lafargue; daughters, Chantal (Guillaume), Sylvie (Kris), Joëlle; and grandsons, Liam and Jakob. André is predeceased by his grandparents, Ferdinand and Anita Sollier, Gustave and Louise Lafargue; his father, Gustave Lafargue; and older brother, Roland Lafargue. A celebration of life will occur on the island of Saint-Pierre at a later date. Gifts can be made to the oncology or audiology and speech language pathology departments through the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
