Obituary of Shirley Barnet
The passing of Shirley Vivian (Burns) Barnet, wife of the late Eldon Barnet, occurred on Sunday, January 06, 2013 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on March 2, 1930 in Fredericton, NB she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Dorothy (Pollock) Burns. Shirley worked for 19 years at the DECH as a switchboard operator, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #80, Nashwaak Bridge. She enjoyed outings with her children, knitting, playing darts and the great outdoors. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Shirley is survived by her children, Jack Barnet (Barb) of Yellowknife, NT and their children, Michael, Jeff and Andy Barnet; Debbie Barry (Richard) of Yellowknife, NT and their children, Jennifer and Troy Barry; Dave Barnet (Nancy) of Fredericton, NB and their children, Heather Thibodeau (Andre) and John Barnet; several great grandchildren; special nieces, Shirley Synder and Brenda Burns and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband and parents, Shirley was predeceased by brothers, Gerald and Robert Burns and sister, Betty Forbes.
A Memorial Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 2 pm with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Fredericton SPCA or the charity of the donor’s choice.
