Obituary of Neil Merton Stairs

The passing of Neil Merton Stairs of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Rosalee “Rose” (Harris) Stairs, occurred on January 29, 2026 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.  Born on December 20, 1931 in Temperance Vale, NB, he was the son of the late Sterling and Verna (Pike) Stairs. Neil worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Province of New Brunswick. He was an avid Toronto fan, loved watching the Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays. Neil had a passion for playing crib.

Neil is survived by his chosen daughter, Lindsey Briggs; sisters, Stella Corey, Jean McVicar and Carole Drost (Ivan); sister in law, LaVerne Seveck (Ron); special mention for Bernita Newman; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife and parents, Neil was predeceased by his brother, Wendell Stairs and twin brother, Merlin Stairs; sister-in-law, Harriet Stairs; brothers-in-law, Vernon Corey and Neil McVicar.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 1-2 pm; followed by a Memorial Service at 2 pm with Rev. Chris Bennett officiating. A reception will follow the service.  Interment will take place in Otis Cemetery, Nackawic, NB at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nashwaaksis Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
