The family of Luella Mary (Firlotte) Hickey of Fredericton, New Brunswick, sadly announce her passing on January 28, 2026, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on May 30, 1928, in Jacquet River, New Brunswick, Luella was the beloved daughter of the late Peter and Harriett Firlotte.

Luella is lovingly remembered by her children: Leona O’Donnell (Roger)and Joe Hickey (Carrie); grandchildren: Cathy Hacker and Chris O’Donnell (Virginia); great-grandson, Kyle Hacker; brother: Philip Firlotte (Joanne) and sister: Doris Walker and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Luella was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Hickey; sisters, Patricia “Tootsie” Finnie, Gladys Smith, Audrey Wright and Edith Hickey; brothers: Edwin and Don Firlotte, partner Theodore Perry.

Luella was a faithful member of St. Anthony’s Church, Stepping Stones Centre, and the Ladies Auxiliary Branch #4 (40 years). She had a deep love for cribbage, winning many awards over the years, and enjoyed walking, travelling, and adventure. She went on numerous bus tours, travelling as far as Florida, and explored many places by car. Throughout her working life, Luella was employed at the Canadian Cotton Mill until its closure. She later worked for many years at St. Thomas University in Vanier Hall and, afterward, devoted many years to home-making for a dear family of five until her retirement.

A Memorial Mass will be held from, St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at 11am with Father Maria Chinnappan officiating. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 after the service. Interment will take place at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in the spring. Remembrances may be made to Our Lady of Peace Parish Fredericton or charity of donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
