Obituary of Sara Christy Holyoke
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sara Christy Holyoke of Fredericton, NB, beloved wife of Marty Jenkins, who left us on January 12, 2026, at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. Born on September 19, 1973, in Fredericton, she was the cherished daughter of Heather (Johnstone) and Andy Holyoke.
In addition to her husband and parents, Sara is survived by her sister, Lisa Holyoke Walsh (Mike); niece, Evie Walsh; stepson, Riley Jenkins; special friends Marlea Potter, Jonna Potter and Emile Dennis; special girls Emma and Livvy Dewar, several aunts, uncles, cousins and her cherished Delta Family. She was predeceased by her grandparents Ervine and Katherine Johnstone, Robin and Jean Holyoke, as well as her aunt and uncle Earl and Joyce Saunders, and cousins Jeff Johnstone and James Miller.
Sara’s remarkable career in hospitality spanned more than three decades, defined by innovation, dedication and a deep commitment to her community. She was a leader in her field and as General Manager for Delta Fredericton, Sara formed countless connections and friendships throughout her career. She was more than a General Manager – she was a visionary leader, an award-winning professional and the heart and soul of the property. Her empathy, strength and unwavering commitment to excellence inspired everyone around her. She built a culture of care and collaboration that will remain as one of her enduring legacies. Under her leadership, the hotel achieved numerous accolades including: Delta Hotel of the year (2013), Marriott Premium Hotel of the Year for North America (2023) and the prestigious Global J. Willard Marriott Jr. Diversity Excellence Award (2025). She was also honored herself as Fredericton Chamber of Commerce Businessperson of the Year in 2019, a testament to her influence both within the hospitality industry and the local business community.
Sara had a passion for movies and travelling, but her greatest joy came from spending time at the camp with Marty and boating on the Mactaquac Head Pond. Whenever she had free time, you could find her either sitting on her deck enjoying the sun or going for a boat ride.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Delta Fredericton, followed by a time for friends and family to gather and share memories. Interment will take place at Douglas Rural Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, the Service can be watched at https://vimeo.com/1156009214/4d919adbb2?share=copy&fl=sv&fe=ci.
