My memory of Sir Wendell Thomas is one filled with honor. He always carried a warm smile and a gentle chuckle in his voice that made you want to smile right back.
My most recent memory of him was this past September, when he, his daughter Bev, and his sister Betty came down to wish me a happy birthday. It was raining, and rather than pull them from the warmth of the car, I hopped into the driver’s seat. They all wished me well, and sitting across from Wendell felt like taking a ride back through time.
He told me how he first met the beautiful Theresa Margaret Shields, gazing toward the homestead that holds so many memories. He recalled, with that sharp business mind of his, how he once bought some below average wood from Constance Shields. This would be his chance to see the love of his life again. As he spoke, I could see those distant yet vivid memories flicker across his face.
He made me feel blessed to carry the features of my mother. That is something we can hold onto.
Wendell’s legacy is not only in the stories he told, but in the remarkable family he raised. His children carry his strength, his humor, his sense of purpose. His grandchildren carry his curiosity, his kindness, and that unmistakable spark in the eyes His values continue to breathe, not as a memory but as a foundation shaping the future.
Long will live the memory of Wendell Thomas.

I regret that I was away and not able to attend Wendell's memorial service. I saw him many times over the last few years in the congregation at North Cardigan United where I played the organ. He was such a nice, pleasant person, a real gentleman. He will be missed by all of you, of course, but he has left you great memories of a life well lived, contributing so much to his family, church, and community.
I will make a donation in his memory to the North Cardigan United Church Cemetery.

Your dad was truly a great guy…he was always so nice to the neighbourhood kids…so gentle and kind.
Growing up on Friel Street we were surrounded by good friends and we have so many happy memories of living there. Your parents were always supportive of the Friel St. kids…allowing us to shortcut through their yard on our way to school and providing delicious cookies while doing so.

Just speaking with Mike at Christmas and he was commenting how well Wendell was doing. He will be missed in several sectors. Wendell Thomas and sons helped build many pieces of infrastructure within the greater Fredericton area. As a young boy , my brother and I grew-up across from Wendell's parents ( I always looked forward to driving the gravel trucks to the back field , load them and return to the "gate road". In part , Wendell was likely an inspiration for our company. Our family will rest easier knowing Wendell is in a better place. Our prayers are with you all .
