In Loving Memory of James Thomas Hickie
March 6, 1953 – October 22, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James “Tom” Hickie on October 22, 2025, just five days after the loss of his beloved wife, Pam.

Born in 1953, Tom lived a life defined by love, devotion, and boundless energy. He met Pam Cail at a Canadian Tire in Saint John, and they continued their courtship while both studying at the University of New Brunswick. They married in 1974 and soon after settled in Marysville, where they raised their family and built a warm and welcoming home filled with laughter, love, and the aroma of Tom’s cooking.

Tom excelled as one of the original “stay at home” Dads, organizing countless fishing trips, archery sessions, and various hikes for a generation of young people. Tom ceaselessly chose to make his family a priority. Whether camping under the stars, hiking through the woods, or paddling across the quiet water at dawn with Pam, Tom found joy in nature and in sharing those moments with the people he loved.

Tom and Pam’s home was always open to friends and family, filled with engaging dialogue and the aroma of home-cooked meals. Holidays were a time of family gatherings and celebration, with Tom at the centre, making sure everyone felt welcome. He was a natural host, a spirited conversationalist, and a man who brought people together with his generous spirit and hospitality.

Tom was an environmental steward at heart, planting thousands of trees with his family on his Marysville property and performing countless hours of service through fire prevention management. His legacy lives on in the forests he cherished, and in the hearts of all who knew him.

Tom was predeceased by his son, James (Jim) Hickie; his sister Linda (David) Bartlett; his brother John (Joan) Hickie; his father William Hickie; his mother Anne Goosney.

He is survived by his sister Barbara Berube (Conrad); his children Will (Elizabeth) and Jessica (Dan); his daughter-in-law Jamie Craig; his grandchildren William, Jessica, Kelly, Alice, John, Victoria, Nicholas, Abigail, Judas, and Callum; and his great-grandchildren Catherine, James and Henry as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Tom’s life was a celebration of love, family, and the kind of bold, wholehearted living that left a lasting mark on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.

A funeral service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held at York Funeral Home on Saturday, November 1st at 2pm. All are welcome to join in celebrating Tom’s life and legacy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that an act of kindness be done in Tom’s memory. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
