Obituary of Pamela Jean Hickie
In Loving Memory of Pamela Jean Hickie
November 21, 1954 – October 17, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Pamela Hickie, who left this world on October 17, 2025, after a long journey with early onset dementia. She was 71 years old.
Pam was an early pioneer in the field of computer science. In 1975, she graduated from the University of New Brunswick’s Faculty of Computer Science, becoming one of the first women to earn a degree in the field. Her trail blazing spirit and sharp intellect paved the way for many who followed in her footsteps.
Pam met her husband Tom while she was working at Canadian Tire in Saint John, they attended UNB together, and they were married in 1974. Shortly after graduation, Pam moved to Marysville, where she began a long career with NB Power. Her dedication and leadership later led her to Deloitte where she acted as a technical consultant and traveled extensively across North America working with many different governments and businesses.
Pam’s life was one of quiet strength, composure and determination with unwavering love for her family. Her home in Marysville was a welcoming place, filled with good food, her well tended gardens, lively conversation, and an abundance of nature. Holidays were marked by family gatherings, with Pam and Tom at the heart of it all, ensuring everyone felt welcome and at home.
Pam was predeceased by her son James (Jim) Hickie; her father Harold Cail; her mother Elizabeth Smith. She is survived by her devoted husband, James (Tom) Hickie, who cared for her with extraordinary love until her final breath.
Pam’s legacy lives on in her family. She is survived by her siblings, Deborah and John; her children Will (Elizabeth) and Jessica (Dan); her daughter-in-law Jamie Craig; her grandchildren William, Jessica, Kelly, Alice, John, Victoria, Nicholas, Abigail, Judas, and Callum; and her great-grandchildren Catherine, James and Henry as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pam’s life was a testament to love and resilience. She will be remembered for her free spirit, her pioneering accomplishments, and the deep love she gave to her family.
A funeral service to celebrate Pam’s life will be held at York Funeral Home on Saturday, November 1st at 2pm. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a quiet act of kindness be done in Pam’s memory. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
