Obituary of Gladys Matilda Wies

Please share a memory of Gladys to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gladys Matilda (Armstrong) Wies on October 7th at York Care Centre in Fredericton, with family present. Gladys was born in Bellisle on April 30th, 1938, the daughter of the late Frederick and May (Northrup) Armstrong, the 6th eldest of nine children.

Gladys was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be warmly remembered for her generosity, her love of life, and her commitment to the well-being of others. She was always the first one to offer help to anyone in need.

Following graduation from Bellisle High School in 1956, Gladys moved to Ottawa to work at the Bank of Canada. In 1960 she married and started to raise a family. Over the years, Gladys lived in many places across North America. Her career was as varied as her experiences—she worked as a bank employee, real estate agent, construction estimator, office manager, rental agent, and retail consultant. In her later years, she returned to her beloved Atlantic Canada and made New Brunswick her home for the past twenty-five years.

Gladys is survived by her sons, Mark Wies (Suzanne) and Chris Wies; grandchildren Jennifer Wies, Christopher Wies (Jess), Justin Wies (Meaghan), Mathew and Michael; great grandchildren, Layla, Ryleigh, Teller, Carter and Walker. She is also survived by her sister Faye (Bill) Pearson; sisters-in-law Eleanor Armstrong and Phyllis Armstrong; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; and siblings, James (June) Armstrong, Pauline (Doug) Defazio, Bill Armstrong, George Armstrong, Calvin Armstrong, Barb (Ashley) Milbury, and Florence (Jack)Duffy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Sherwood’s Funeral Home in Norton, NB, on Friday, November 14th at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at the same location.

For those who wish, donations in Gladys’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.

Condolences and memorial donations may be submitted at SherwoodsFuneralHome.com.
