Obituary of Jack Roderick Johnson
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jack Roderick Johnson of Fredericton, NB, which occurred on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, with family by his side. Born on November 24, 1929 in Gagetown NB, Jack was the beloved husband of 71 years to the late Wilma Johnson, and the son of the late Burton and Helena (Biddiscombe) Johnson.
In addition to his wife Wilma and parents, he was also predeceased by his siblings Harold, Aubrey, Francis, Raymond, Marie, Blanche, Pauline, Kathryn, Marianne and several brother and sister in-laws.
He is survived by his children, Debbie (Allan), Donnie (Susan), Angie (Robert) and Brent (Randa); grandchildren, Kyle (Lacey), Kate (Greg), Jeremy (Deanne), David (Kate), Drew (Hilary), Aaron (Madison) and Taya (Austin); cherished great grandchildren, Paisley, Dallas, Kolt, Jasper, Liv, Isabel, Emmie, Violet, Doug and Lizzy; siblings Ken (Fern), Bertie, and Doris; brother in law Alton (Jeanne) ;as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jack grew up in Gagetown, the third born of 13 children in his family. He was introduced to the rigors of farm life at a very young age, working alongside his father and siblings. In his late teens, he moved to Fredericton where he soon met Wilma and began building a life together. A natural salesman, Jack worked a variety of roles throughout his career–each one offering better opportunities and advancements. He eventually became part owner at Rosser Sales & Equipment selling heavy equipment. A few years were also spent at Atmus Construction.
Jack’s leisure time was spent staying informed on the news and weather, reading, tending to his yard, vegetable garden and grape vines, birdwatching, road trips/picnics on Sunday afternoons and family vacations at the camp on Lake George. Family was the center of his life and he always had regular “ check ins “ wanting to hear about the latest happenings and adventures of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The updates certainly brought him a lot of joy!
During his last few years, Jack faced challenges of declining health but found immense comfort in sitting on his deck taking in the warmth of the sunshine, sharing many stories of the past, going for little drives, visiting the apple orchard, and celebrating special occasions with his family. He deeply appreciated the daily visits from family and neighborhood friends (heartfelt thanks to Karen, Jane and Dog, Dave). He was so blessed to remain at home with the exceptional help from his support workers: Delores, Sam, Allison, Amanda, Kim and Nhan. Their compassion, kindness and dedication meant the world to him and his family.
A special thanks to Extra Mural, Dr. Rideout and the nurses of 3E for their care during his final days.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, October 9th from 1:00-3:00 pm; followed by a private family interment at the Douglas Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
